How does the sound activate? We have batteries in but there is no sound- is it broke or is there a magic button

The description is confusing, initially by the price it states suitable for 12 months to 5 years.  Then in the product information it states suitable for 2-5 years. Can you confirm what age this product is meant to be suitable for.
